Coco Calling: No. 44 - J.O.Y.

The random thoughts of a Christian parrot J.O.Y. Some people refer to me as “a cage-bird” because my home is a parrot cage, even though I regularly come out. And they often wonder how it is that I’m such a happy bird. After all, I can’t fly around as much as the wild birds outside. But I’ve got something that they don’t have. I’m truly loved by the humans that I live with, and I feel completely safe. I don’t have to worry about predators or where my next meal is coming from, or how I will get through the Winter. I count my blessings. But there’s more to it than this. Because I experience real joy in my life. And that word “JOY” is the secret to a happy existence here on Earth. Let me explai

Coco Calling: No. 43 - The Sheep that Went Over the Cliff Edge

The random thoughts of a Christian parrot I live in quite a rural area, not far from the sea. In some parts, there are wild, rugged fields grazed by sheep which run right up to the edge of the sea, or in some cases, sea cliffs. In a nearby village, there lives a lady Vicar called Penny. Every time I meet her, my eyeballs dilate and my quills start to rattle. It’s always been love at first sight between us. She whispers sweet nothings into my ear, and in return, I fluff up my feathers and offer to regurgitate. Sometimes several weeks pass when we don’t see each other, but that only serves to make every meeting all the more precious. And although Penny has a human husband in town, I’ve become her feathery admirer. And for the last couple of years, I’ve sent he

Coco Calling: No. 41 - Is Life Fair?

The random thoughts of a Christian parrot My good friend Einstein, (the African Grey) told me a story last week which I’d like to share with you. A man went into a pet shop to buy a parrot. The shop owner pointed to three identical-looking parrots sitting in a row on a perch. They’d come from a local firm of lawyers which was in the process of downsizing to a smaller building. He said: “The one on the left costs £500.00.” “Why is it so expensive?” asked the customer. The owner replied: “This parrot knows how to do legal research.” The customer then asked about the next parrot in the line, and was told that it would cost £1,000.00, because it could do everything that the first parrot could, p
