The random thoughts of a Christian parrot
Well, Spring has sprung, and it’s a joy to be a parrot! The flowers are all unfurling outside. The birds are singing and beginning to nest. And the air is filled with both the smell and sound of humans mowing their lawns. This is my favourite time of year. All Nature feels good! There is a richness and a lushness everywhere. A sense of optimism, hope and expectation.
Heaven has often been likened to the glory of Spring and Summer, particularly when they follow on after a long, cold Winter. And why not? Because all around us, a living miracle is taking place. Everything that seemed dead and dormant for so long has suddenly leapt into life. Seeds. Shoots. Hibernating creatures. Migrating birds. It’s very easy to take it all for granted, but pause for a moment, and you will see that the world around has changed into a living miracle. Vibrant new life after the apparent death and desolation of wintertime. A resurrection is occurring before our very eyes.
Stare at the beauty of the Spring, and Heaven won’t seem so very far away. The reality of the resurrection, Salvation and our own afterlife become all the more plausible. And we begin to understand the message of hope that Paul writes in his letter to the Roman churches:
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed in us…………creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.” (Romans 8: 18 and 21).
Just open your eyes and open your mind to the glorious miracle of Springtime; ……………………………. and then imagine an Eternal Spring!
