We parrots love a good old fable or a story, and I came across one the other day which I’d like to share with you.

One day, a beautiful human princess went for a walk with her sister. And quite by chance, they stumbled across a small frog. Now, you may think that seeing a frog is nothing out of the ordinary, but this frog spoke to her. “I’m not really a frog,” he said. “A spell was put on me. If you pick me up and give me a kiss, I’ll turn back into a handsome prince. We’ll fall in love and live happily ever after.”

Well, the princess picked up the frog, but instead of kissing him, she placed him in her handbag. “Why haven’t you kissed him?” asked her sister. And the princess replied: “Oh, there’s a handsome prince on every street corner, but with a talking frog, I can make an absolute fortune!”

No doubt, this princess was already very wealthy, and it’s clear that she valued money over love. And that is quite often the way of the human world. Wealth and profit are prioritised over generosity, love and compassion. But in God’s eyes, it’s not humans with vast fortunes that are the success stories of life. No, the greatest humans are those who have tirelessly given to others throughout their lives. Perhaps in a million small ways, making this world a better place for all. That’s how you really become a ‘true millionaire.”

“For it is in giving that we receive.”

(Francis of Assisi: [c.1181 - 1226]: Italian Catholic Friar who founded the religious order of the Franciscans)

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

(Winston Churchill: [1874 – 1965]: British statesman who served as Prime Minister during the Second World War)

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

(2 Corinthians 9:7)
