I’ve noticed how humans like to build some very large structures. Yes, as chicks, -or should I say children, -they’re often given a Lego set, to hone their skills and learn the basic art of construction. So that by the time they fledge into adulthood, they’re capable of putting up things like cathedrals. In fact, there are a great many cathedrals across this land in far flung places such as Liverpool, London, Canterbury and York. And I mustn’t forget Salisbury Cathedral which has the highest spire of all. Yes, just imagine the parrot’s-eye-view you’d get if you were perched on the top at more than 400 feet!
Of course, cathedrals, just like their smaller cousins, -churches, -have been built to provide humanity with a spiritual home. So much effort goes into building and maintaining them, so it’s really rather sad that many humans choose to spend their Sunday mornings away from church services. Part of the problem is that the human race has created different types of cathedrals for itself. So, we have the ‘Cathedral of the Shopping Centre,’ which lures countless humans in by bedazzling them with wonderful things that they’d really love to own. And then there’s also the ‘Cathedral of the Sports Arena’ where humans go to watch or sport. There’s also the slightly smaller ‘cathedral’ called ‘The Television Set.’ Humans sit in front of this instead of going out and choose to binge watch their favourite T.V. programmes. And last, but not least, there’s the ‘Cathedral of the Cosy Bed.’ Yes, a great many humans spend Sunday morning roosting between the sheets to avoid doing anything at all.
All this leads me to ask a very simple question; how do humans who avoid church services manage to refresh their souls and recharge their spirituality? Because the spirit is right at the heart of the body; if the spirit isn’t right, then both the body and the mind will suffer. It’s as simple as that. A good church will serve as a meeting place with God; the same God that made us all and the same God that wants us to join Him in Heaven. So maybe some humans need to change the balance of their lives. Because if they do, they’ll be so much happier for it. And those of us that know this need to tell them!
“A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.” (C.S. Lewis: [1898 – 1963]: Northern Irish literary scholar, Anglican lay theologian and Christian writer)
“Instead of pursuing happiness, pursue God, and happiness will find you, deep in your soul.” (Leila Grandemange: [1968 – present]: American Christian writer and author of dog-breeding titles)
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6: 19–21)
