We’re now into what I like to call ‘Fluffed-up February.’ It’s still rather chilly for parrots like me, but at least the days are getting longer, and it won’t be too long before some of my feathered friends begin to leave Africa and head north to spend their Summer with us. Yes, the skies will be criss-crossed as flocks of birds come and go, probably amassing a trillion wingbeats between them.

Meanwhile, humans tend to go on shorter migrations which they like to call ‘holidays,’ and they sometimes resort to their metal boxes on wheels as they haven’t got wings to take them. But irrespective of whether we’ve got wheels or wings, we’re all on a kind of journey from the moment we’re hatched to the moment that we die. It’s called ‘The Journey of Life.’ And every life event that we encounter forms a part of that same journey. Leaving the nest; becoming fledged; finding a mate; scooping out a nest hole; hatching our very own chicks; suffering an accident; falling ill; losing a mate; looking after another elderly bird; -all of these experiences form a part of our journeys. And we usually end up as very different individuals to the ones that started out. After all, every single experience and life event has the potential to shape us, mould us, and maybe even redirect us. It’s all a part of our Creator’s ‘Master Plan’ to help us grow, learn and evolve into beings that are more suited for eternal-life in Heaven. We don’t always see it at the time, especially when the experience proves to be a bad one. But quietly, subtly and gently, we are regularly given a gentle nudge in the direction of Heaven. That’s the intended ‘end destination’ for every single creature here on Earth. And those of us with bigger brains have less excuse for failing to get there!

“Christlikeness is your eventual destination, but your journey will last a lifetime.”                                                                                                 (Rick Warren: [1954 – present]: American evangelical pastor and author)

“God never said that the journey would be easy, but He did say that the arrival would be worthwhile.”

(Max Lucado: [1955 – present]: American church pastor and Christian author)

“The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and the acceptance of love.”

(Marianne Williamson: [1952 – present]: American author and spiritual leader)

“The Christian life is a pilgrimage from earth to heaven, and our task is to take as many as possible with us as we make this journey.”

(Warren W. Wiersbe: [1929 – 2019]: American Christian clergyman and prolific writer)

“…. But he who endures firm to the end will be saved.”

(Matthew 24:13)
