My owner was recently walking alongside a large stone wall. ‘Nothing very interesting in that,’ you may think. The wall had probably stood there for countless decades and born witness to a great many storms and gales. But it wasn’t only the wall that represented a symbol of defiance. Barely noticeable was a tiny fern which had somehow managed to grow out from between a couple of the granite blocks. There it was, defying all the odds, and bringing to its barren world a small, green ray of hope and optimism.

Life can be just like that for many humans and creatures around the world. We don’t always have a choice about our circumstances or surroundings, and not all of us are lucky enough to achieve our full potential. And God knows this all too well. But what we can do is try to make the most of whatever hand life deals us, -by making small and positive impacts, -just like the tiny fern. Because even when our lives are constrained, we can still try to make this world a better place than we found it. And you know something? It’s when we start to notice all the little things in life that we begin to understand the bigger picture all around!

“It is not the trials in your life that develop or destroy you, but rather your response to those hardships.”                                                              (Charles Stanley: [1932–2023]: American Southern Baptist pastor and writer).

“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.”

(Mother Teresa: [1910–1997]: Roman Catholic Saint and nun who dedicated her life to caring for the poor and sick in Calcutta, India, as well as elsewhere).

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ.”

(1 Thessalonians 5: 16–18).
