Hello again everybody! I’m a bit bleary-eyed today as it’s been a little while since I had a good night’s sleep. ‘And why is that’ I hear you ask? Well, I’m afraid that it’s Lucy, the elderly labrador, who shares this kitchen with me. Because in recent weeks, Lucy has started to wake up in the middle of the night. And because she’s old, and quite needy, she starts to bark until one of the humans in the house gets out of bed to attend to her. It’s not that she needs to go out, or have a bite to eat, or a slurp of water from her bowl. No, she wakes up a little muddled and confused and needs to be reassured that everything’s alright. And sometimes this can happen two or three times in a single night.

Now, of course, there’s a slightly different dimension to all of this. Just think about it for a minute. I’m a parrot. I’m a brilliant mimic. I can do the telephone, the smoke alarm, and I’ve learnt to shout ‘Richard!’ full blast whenever my owner’s wife walks out into the hallway. I always manage to do the right sound at the right time. My owner’s only too aware of this. So, he’s been pleading with me not to learn to bark, -especially in the middle of the night! And being a reasonable sort of feathery friend, I’ve so far gone along with his wishes.

And I guess that this whole situation is just another of those difficult experiences that we all have to navigate as we go through life. Things aren’t always as we would wish. And so many of you reading this will know exactly what I mean. Because I’m sure that some of you have had to look after needy family members at different times in your lives; or else cope with your own set of aches and pains or troubled thoughts as you lie awake in your beds. None of this is very easy to deal with, -it never is, but at least nothing in life lasts for ever. Everything is but a temporary phase in our worldly existence.

And I reckon that’s a good thing. Because here on Earth, we get the rough with the smooth, but in the life that’s yet to come, it will all be plain sailing and a life of pure joy!

“God never said that the journey would be easy, but that the arrival would be worthwhile.”

(Max Lucado: [1955-present]: American Church Minister, Christian author and public speaker).

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

(James 4: 14)

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us.”                                                                        (Romans 8:18)

Please note: The wonderful human lady called Kriszti who licks my blogs into shape and sends them out is going to be on vacation for the next couple of weeks, so you won’t hear from me again until Wednesday 1st July.

And something even bigger for you to note: My human owner has gone crazy! (And not for the first time). Please see below.
