Coco Calling No.250 - A Parrot’s Guide to Human Acronyms

Last week, I wrote about how hard it is for parrots to understand the dual meanings of certain human words. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, I’m now going to look at when humans abbreviate words by using acronyms. Yes, humans sometimes throw a whole bunch of letters together to create a single word which can convey a lot more than you might be expecting.
For example, take the new American President. I used to think that ‘TRUMP’ was his real name, but it apparently stands for “The Reason Underdogs Must Pray!”
And I’ve got quite a few others to share with you. For example:
‘TEAM’ means “Together Everyone Achieves More.”
“PORSCHE” is “Proof of Rich, Spoilt Children Having Everything.”
“DIET” is “Do I Eat Today?”
“LOVE” is “Loss Of Valuable Energy”
“FEAR” is “Forget Everything And Run!”
And “GIRL” means “Greatly Interesting Revitalising Life-Form”
How is a parrot meant to learn all that? But then some time ago, one of my regular readers told me that “KFC” doesn’t always refer to Kentucky Fried Chicken. No, in her church, it stands for “Kindness, Friendship and Compassion.” And I really like that, and it made me think of some other acronyms which I could use in my blogs. For example, I could have:
“GRACE” meaning “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.”
“GOSPEL” meaning “God’s Only Son Provides Eternal Life.”
“BIBLE” meaning “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.”
and
“JOY” meaning “Jesus, Others, Yourself” (in that order).
And wouldn’t it be wonderful if “LSD” stood for “Love, Salvation and deliverance”? Because human words are only what you humans choose to make them. If your thoughts are pure, then your words will become pure too. But if you use words to convey a darker meaning, then it’s that darkness which you will be sharing with everybody else, and that can’t be a very good thing. No, I’d much rather use acronyms that help me to reach higher. So that my “LIFE” can be “Living In Faith Everyday.” And then maybe, folk will notice that what I have found makes me happy, hopeful, grateful and content.
“Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary, use words.” (Saint Francis of Assisi: [1181 – 1226]: Italian Catholic Friar who founded the order of Franciscans).
“The best way to find hope is to create it.”
(Martin Luther King Jnr.: [1929 – 1968]: American Baptist Minister, and prominent figure in the human rights struggle until his eventual assassination by white supremacists).
“Pleasant words are like honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” (Proverbs 16: 24)
“Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.”
