I do hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter. I must admit that humans fascinate me at this time of year, and that’s because so many of them behave in a very strange way. They somehow feel that they’re missing out because of their inability to lay eggs, so they go about making themselves chocolate replicas. Yes, eggs made out of chocolate! Of all the daft things! Sit on them for five minutes, and you find yourself incubating one big sticky and stodgy mess, that takes a lot of sorting out. But then I have to remember that they are only humans. Given time, they’ll probably learn to use something else.

Of course, Easter isn’t simply a celebration of eggs; no, at the heart of Easter lies a message from Heaven that is all about hope for the future. The hope of new life; the hope of eternal life; and the hope of forgiveness. But not only that. Easter’s also an invitation for us to spread God’s love wherever we go. And these two things, -love and hope, -make our worldly existence a lot more bearable than it would otherwise be. Because irrespective of what life throws at us, we now know that love can conquer everything. That we’ve been saved by the love of Jesus, and that true love forgives. Making Easter Day the most joyous day that we will ever know!

So, in the true spirit of Easter love, I’d better go and prise my owner off his egg before he gets permanently stuck to it….

“The very first Easter taught us this: that life never ends, and love never dies.”

(Kate McGahan: [DofB unknown – current]: American author and hospice worker)

“Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in Springtime.”

(Martin Luther King Jnr: [1929 – 1968: American Baptist Minister and civil rights campaigner, assassinated by a white supremacist)

“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.”

(Desmond Tutu: [1931 – 2021]: South African Anglican Bishop and anti-apartheid campaigner)

“Do everything in love.”

(1 Corinthians 16:14)

“Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever believes in me will never die.”       (John 11: 25 – 26a)
