We’re now a week past Christmas Day, and I hope you all had a wonderful time. I certainly did! A couple of my regular blog readers sent me through my very own Christmas present, -yes, a delicious packet of “Fruit Cocktail” treats for parrots! And I have to say, I felt very touched; it was a real act of kindness on their part, especially as they’ve never met me.
And I suppose that the whole spirit of Christmas is about giving out to others. Yes, it’s about putting others before ourselves. That’s certainly what God did when He gave us the ultimate gift of Jesus. But unlike a box of chocolates or packet of parrot treats, Jesus is a gift that keeps on giving, long after Christmas Day has passed. He’s also the gift that we probably don’t deserve, yet He comes before us as a parcel of love. And in a funny sort of way, this makes us all like the famous innkeeper in Bethlehem. For God’s gift is there for all to receive, but the question is whether we have room for Jesus in our hearts and minds? And if there isn’t room right now, will we make room in the future? Because Jesus is a lifetime gift; for today, tomorrow and every living day that’s still to come. And maybe it’s for us to stoop right down to find Him…...
“When I was a young Christian, I thought that God kept His gifts on shelves, and that the best gifts were on the highest shelves, and I would have to reach up. I learned later the best gifts are on the lowest shelf and I had to stoop down….”
(Dwight Moody: [1837–1899]: Prominent American evangelist)
“God never gives someone a gift they are not capable of receiving. If He gives us the gift of Christmas, it is because we all have the ability to understand and receive it.”
(Pope Francis:[1936-Present] Current leader of the Roman Catholic Church movement)
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
(2 Corinthians 9:15)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
