My owner and I get on really well, and it’s been that way for the 25 years that we’ve lived together in the same flock. Of course, he’s not always very bright, and he sometimes gets on my nerves. Once or twice, I’ve even been known to give him a little nip with my vice-like beak. But the secret to our relationship is also the secret to a successful human marriage. It’s about learning to love someone despite their imperfections. And it’s also about learning to forgive them after they transgress. That’s exactly how God is towards us all. Because it doesn’t matter what we do; He continues to love us, warts and all. God’s love is unconditional; it’s a love which gives out without expecting anything back in return. There may be times in our lives when we feel ashamed of ourselves and when we almost wish we could hide away in some dark hole. But God never gives up on us; His love for us is really that strong. In fact, it’s so strong, that He’d rather allow Jesus to die for us on the cross, than exist in Heaven without us. That is the very essence of unconditional love. It’s mindboggling, it’s all powerful, and it’s rather a lot for this small parrot to comprehend.
So as we move into the Easter weekend, I guess I’ll have to keep making allowances for my owner, (poor human that he is), because God will be making allowances for me and all creation. Hallelujah! And Happy Easter everyone!
