Coco Calling No.303 -  The Return of the Sun

Up until last week, something very important had been missing from my life. Yes, -it had been missing for a very long time. And I don’t mean chillies or nuts, or my special ‘parrot treats.’  No, I’m referring to the sun. Parrots like me are extroverts; we need sunny days to feel at our best. But here in North Devon, the sun had all but disappeared. Instead, we had rain, day after day after day.  In fact, some parts of Southwest England it rained for more than 50 consecutive days.

So, last week, after the sun had finally reappeared, I found myself looking up at the sky, wondering where it could have been hiding all this time. After all, the sun is absolutely massive. It holds 99.8% of all of the mass in our solar system. It’s 865,000 mile wide, and 960,000 of our Earth’s could fit inside it. So where had it been?

Well, that was the cue for another of my ‘Parrot Einstein’ moments. Because I realised that the sun hadn’t gone anywhere. It had been there all the time; it was just that I hadn’t been able to see it because of the thick layer of cloud.

And our relationship with the ‘other Son’ can be just like this as well. Because Jesus is never very far away; it’s just that we can’t always see Him or sense His presence, powerful and all-encompassing as He is. And when He disappears from view, it’s usually clouds of our own making that block Him out. We get distracted by worldly things and forget what He can offer us.

Soon it will be Eastertime again, so hopefully our world will become more mindful of Jesus again and allow Him to shine the warmth of His love deep into our hearts and into the troubles of our minds. Because with so many troubles in the world right now, we all need Jesus more than we will ever know!

“You can never learn that Christ is all you need, until Christ is all you have.”                                                                                                     (Corrie ten Boon: [1892 – 1983]: Dutch Christian writer and speaker who survived internment in a World War II Nazi concentration camp).

“Jesus didn’t come to tell us the answers to the questions of life, He came to be the answer.”

(Timothy Keller: [1950 – 2023]: American Presbyterian pastor).

“Jesus Christ is not a problem; He is the solution to every problem for life, for death, and for eternity.”

(Harry Ironside: [1876 – 1951]: Canadian-American Christian preacher, theologian and author).

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’.”

(John 14:6)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”                                                                                                      (Matthew 11: 28)
