Coco Calling No.269 - At the Very Heart of Christmas

I LOVE Christmastime because there is something very special about it. And I’m not talking about fairy lights, presents, or parrots that dress up as “Parrot Claus.” No, that something very special is quite simply LOVE itself. And so many creatures need to be loved. I know I do. It’s my food, my water and my oxygen all in one.

There wasn’t a great deal of love in our world until Jesus arrived 2000 years ago. But the mere act of Him being born in a manger, as an infant human, meant that He brought love into our world. A love which is Heaven’s greatest gift to us all.

Now, a great many humans will go trotting off to church services over this Christmas period. And I wonder how many of them will know why they’ve gone. Are they simply fulfilling a Christmas tradition? Were they coerced into going? Is it because they like to sing Christmas carols? Or do they realise quite what a gift Jesus is to our world? For He’s the gift of love, and compassion, and hope for the future. And He’s the gift of joy and forgiveness, and of Salvation to come. Because the birth of Jesus is one humungous Christmas present to us all, and I just hope that I’m not the one that’s asked to wrap it all up!

Have a wonderful Christmas everybody! And spread the pure love of Jesus into the world around you. Happy Christmas!

“Jesus Christ knows the worst about you. Nonetheless, He is the one who loves you most.”                                                                               (A.W. Tozer: [1897-1963]: American Christian pastor and author)

“Riches take wings, comforts vanish, hope withers away, but love stays with us. Love is God.”

(Lew Wallace: [1827-1905]: American soldier, lawyer, diplomat and author)

“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us; just as the roof of a sun house does not attract the sun because it is bright, but because the Son shines on it.”                                                                                                          (C. S. Lewis: [1898-1963]: Northern Irish writer, academic scholar and lay Anglican theologian)

“Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

(1 John 4:8)
